IMPORTANT: Storyboarding Update

Hey Group #6,

The consensus after class today was that we are entering the danger zone when it comes to production, but I'd like to assure you that that's not the case. Truth be told, the vis devers can dive deeper into their designs, along with the modelers. The only prop that has to be designed now is the flute. For the animators, I shall have beat boards by tonight and rough boards by tomorrow night.

Overview of what's going on with story:

After struggling with trying to make my sequence different from Hillary's, and not quite being able to grasp the direction I'm supposed to go in, I asked permission to change our scene to when our heroes are at the entrance of the waterfall. Same characters. Same setting.

Here are the basic beats:

1. The group reaches the base of the waterfall.
2. Mokarita commands Nadia and Alex to climb up.
3. Nadia tells Alex that she's afraid of heights and she can't climb.
4. Alex suggests that she talks to Mokarita about her problem.
5. Nadia tells Mokarita that she's afraid of climbing the cliff.
6. Mokarita is upset at this, and orders Tahama to drag her over to the waterfall.
7. Alex, desperate, tries to pry Nadia from Tahama, but his efforts are worthless.
8. Tahama pushes Alex to the ground, causing his flute to fall from his pocket.
9. Alex picks up the flute, and in a last ditch effort plays the flute to get the tribesmen's attention.
10. Mokarita and Tahama, mesmerized by the flute, put Nadia down and head over to Alex.

Questions from me to you:

Are there beats that can be taken out?
Are there beats that should be added in?

FOR ANIMATORS:

From the beat list, is there anything that stands out to you that you would like to animate? I can get to those shots first.

  1. I like the script you wrote out in a later post where Alex reassures her in the start, but she dismisses it more than here where Alex just tells her to go complain to Mokarita basically.

I also like how in the script, you have the Indians more like step aside (Or at least that's what I got from the script) instead of going over to Alex as if they're mice being lured by the pied piper.

I can't really think of any beats to take out. It's possible to combine some, but for now, since you're starting from scratch, see what you can get out of the script to at least see what works and what might not work.

As for animating...they all seem interesting to me. I really like the interaction between the characters that you can draw out from this whole scene honestly. This has a really strong possibility, even now from the script stage, in being a really good storyboard with a strong sense of character and showing who each character is and where they stand in the scene. I'm super excited!
