waterfalling

hey guys so i tried to take your suggestions and made some changes to the design. i think its headed in a better direction, but let me know what you think. i think chris said he was going to try to model a rough pass of this version.

i've also been working on some of the rock and foliage design which i'll post later.

here's the revision i tried to do before leaving for work:

  1. Hey Nathan, that's looking great. The one thing that is definitly bothering me is the spacing between the two jutting wings (in grey) on either side of the waterfall.

I'd unbalance those, they look too even right now, also think about giving them some sort of path or connecting walkway, or something to get to the base of the waterfall, I don't recall them swimming to it.

Otherwise I think that shape is pretty cool, almost menacing tho, maybe tone down just a few of the spikes, specifically the ones hanging down as those probably would fall away. Keep some of them tho, as that is good foreshadowing to the danger that befalls Mokarita.

The difference in terrain between the outside wings in grey and the main waterfall is also a bit odd. Maybe split the difference, or redraw one to match the other a little more.

Keep at it man, it's on the right track.

  3. looking good! I agree with Alex about it being a bit too balanced with the winged area. i also agree maybe making the main portion of the waterfall have some of the same curvature as the rest of the rocks around it...otherwise im really liking it!

  4. Is it connected to a plateau? I can't tell right now. Just wondering cause I know the city has to be somewhere around it.

  5. Heya Nathan! I'm really liking how this is turning out! Design wise, I would be careful about adding too many horizontals. It's kind of washing out the verticals you're having. Alex posted an image (4th from the top) where there are some really interesting patterning. There are some very strong vertical shapes, supported by horizontals that gets speckled out as we get closer to the waterfall. The stronger horizontal lines don't really come into full effect until we look near the base of the falls sheltered from the torrent of the water. It kind of adds to the sturdiness of the waterfall with all those verticals.

    1. Oh! I agree with the menacing feeling that Alex pointed out. :)
