Notes for Nathan

A lot of waterfall cliff faces are made from sandstone, which allows the stone to be cut into by the waterfall over the years. It also allows a tunnels to be dug into by the various streams of water that might have gone a different direction from the main flow.

While a cliffside from the ocean, this image does show an interesting design possibility with ledges with strong rectangular shapes.

While you have done a layers effect on the waterfall. There is a lot of mist that comes off of it also. Which allows things like moss and various vegetation to grow off of it.

A lot of cliff faces show different layers with the color changes as well. This is a possibility to show that this waterfall has been there for years. Up to you.

Interesting colors that can be used.

Interesting small story. A boulder has fallen into the path of the waterfall causing it to fall from one side changing how the water has cut into the stone surface of the waterfall.

More images of Angels Falls. The photographer has captured from the helocopter that he rode on. Notice how on ledges, the vegetation has taken any chance it could get to survive on this tall and slippery ledge. The stone pattern gives a sense of long vertical shapes, adding to the sense of how tall this large imposing plateau really is. What is interesting is that the waterfall also takes on this shape language itself before it breaks off into mist. Almost giving off a feeling that this waterfall is SO tall that by the time the water reaches the bottom, it's almost like a layer of mist coming down. Maybe it causes a sense of limited visibility at the base of the falls? Something to think about.

Even though the falls is the tallest in the world, it's almost like the jungle around it and the clouds hide it giving the falls this mystical feel like this is a place that can be important in an almost religious kind of way.

Some various clouds that near the 3/4th point of the waterfall, giving the feel that this is so tall that it's higher than the clouds that surround it. Notice how the rust color is, showing where over the years, the water has given the stone this rust like color. There are parts of the rust color and the white of the stone follows this long vertical shape language as well.
Just an almost romantic image, thanks to the rainbow. But notice how because the waterfall starts from the top, it adds to this scale of the waterfall as well. Adding to the sense how daunting a climb this must be. On the right is is a possible spot where climbers can possibly rest before heading on further up. Notice also on the bottom where the flow of the river wides around to yet a smaller waterfall as if the journey isn't done...it's still falling...

The mist has given a mystical mysterious edge to it as well. While the vegitation gives it a lush feel, while also giving a hidden danger feel...at least to me.

What I want to know is...damn, where is the water coming from? It's almost like a never ending supply of water from the gods? Or maybe a story element is like it's from the slothmen, who gives to water to the tribesmen so they can survive. Water IS an important  element to people in all countries. Also just a side story. It adds another interesting layer to this waterfall.

I think the photographer has waited for a certain time of the day when the waterfall at Yosemite to reflect this awesome color giving it this danger feel. It's a consideration to the mood you can add to if you water to explore that.

Just reminds me of the geometric shape language that abounds in the tribal images that Alex has pulled up.

Interesting shapes to look at.

Another side idea to think of is, are there any dinosaur skeletons in the walls of the tunnels, or even at the face of the cliff side? It just something to play off of to make this your own when doing a vis dev piece. It also adds to a very cool image. I remember playing FFXI, and to climb this huge plateau, you had to walk on various ledges made from the stone as well as the spinal cord of dinosaurs. It's just something that you can add as well to say that this huge piece of earth has been year for millions of years. Make this almost a game design if you even want, as to the path the Indians take to climb up. It's almost like the story of the rabbit and the tortoise, the rabbit would have climb straight up, exhausting himself before he even reached the top. While the tortoise would probably use ledges and stuff and walk around things if it's looking impossible to climb vertically. It's just something additional you can take to plus your design.  Make this waterfall as interesting as you can.  :)

Keep in mind that another team is doing the waterfall as well. What can you add that makes it interesting that the other teams isn't doing? They are basing it on Angel Falls as well, so that means you can to think about to you're designing this even more. Try to add elements that you haven't thought of before like the dinosaur idea and see if it works. If it turns out that the other team is doing the same idea, find an element of the same idea and find another angle to it that they haven't done. Think of how the Indian tribe might use this as an advantage to climb up the waterfall. It's just some ideas to bring up while you're in the conceptual phase.

I think you thought of some of the things that I've mentioned already. Just trying to add in everything that I was thinking at this stage so I don't forget later on...Hope it wasn't TOO overwhelming.   :)

Sorry for that wall of text, btw.
