Plants and rocks

Here are some more plant studies. I plan to color them, but right now I'm going to focus on making the chars cohesive, and making a style guide. I also did some rocks.

  1. Hey Joelle,

These are looking pretty fabulous! I like the way you painted them too!

  2. For the plant studies I REALLY like the 4th and 5th design from the left on the second page a lot. I think what I really like about them is the sense of grouping with the shapes. Where you have a main gathering of the mass with a few break offs. I think this general thought can also be brought upon the other vegetation as well. It makes it feel less flat.

For the rocks, can you try incorporating more straights, but be careful not to have dangerous sharp edges. For me, I really like the shape under the blackest rock. It's a very solid shape with the straights, but it's still whimsical. I also like how the inside line patterns are. I also like the small grouping of rocks to the right of the blackest rock. Maybe those shapes as you get further away from the waterfall, but as you get closer, the more straights there are. More imposing shapes.

For the third page of tree designs. Avoid stuff like the first three. The first tree feels very sparse even though you have a lot of shapes, the foliage feels all separated giving a very airy feel to it. It also cause it to feel flat. The second one feels too storybook neighborhood tree-esque, and the third is too whimsical, entering a Dr. Suess feel for me. I like the last two though, they feel like trees you would see in a dense jungle.
